Cookie policy

Last reviewed:

Every cookie this site sets, and everything else it keeps in your browser, is listed below, along with what waits until you allow it. So is the one cookie its client dashboard sets.

The approach here

Two cookies are set without asking, and each only when it is needed: the one that records your choice about cookies, once you make it, and the one that holds a sent quote request while you confirm its email address. Nothing else that is not essential runs until you allow it.

That includes everything Mapbox serves: the roof maps on the quote form and the roof measurement tool, the map on the contact page, and finding the building on the map from its address. None of it is asked for until you allow it.

It includes the two measurement scripts too, Vercel Web Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights. Both are served from roofcheck.co.uk itself and neither sets a cookie or stores anything in your browser, but they still wait: the question is whether to measure at all.

Refusing leaves the rest of the site working. The quote form’s address lookup runs from this site’s server rather than your browser, so it still works, and the map step can be skipped.

Cookies this site sets

rc_consentroofcheck.co.ukRecords your choice about non-essential cookies and scripts, so the banner does not ask again and they stay off when the answer was no.EssentialOne year
rc_quoteroofcheck.co.ukHolds a sent quote request’s reference and email address, sealed so that only this site’s server can read them, while you enter the email code. It is sent to the quote form’s own server routes and nowhere else.EssentialOne hour, or until the email is confirmed

That is the whole list. No advertising, tracking or personalisation cookie is set here, whatever you choose.

Other storage in your browser

NameKindSet byPurposeEssentialLasts
rc-quote-v1Local storageroofcheck.co.ukThe quote form’s draft: your answers, the roof outline and the step you are on, so that a refresh does not lose them, and once sent, the request’s reference and whether the code went. The roof measurement tool writes it too, with the address and the roofs, when you go on from it to the quote form. It stays on your device and is never sent anywhere on its own.EssentialUntil the email is confirmed, the form is started again, or you clear your browser’s site data
mapbox.eventData.uuid:…Local storageMapboxAn anonymous ID, not linked to you, that Mapbox counts loads of the roof maps with. Written only once a roof map loads, after you allow it.Only with your consentUntil you clear your browser’s site data; the ID in it is replaced every day
mapbox.eventData.uuidTimestamp:…Local storageMapboxWhen that anonymous ID was made, so that Mapbox knows when to replace it.Only with your consentUntil you clear your browser’s site data
mapbox.eventData:…Local storageMapboxWhen a roof map last reported a load to Mapbox.Only with your consentUntil you clear your browser’s site data
mapbox-tilesCache storageMapboxMap tiles and styles, kept so that a roof map redraws without fetching them again.Only with your consentUntil they go out of date, or you clear your browser’s site data

Clearing this site’s data in your browser removes all of these, along with the cookies above.

Third parties, and when they load

  • Mapbox draws the roof maps on the quote form and the roof measurement tool, and the map on the contact page, and finds the building from its address. It waits until you allow it, then loads from api.mapbox.com. Only the roof maps store anything, and what they store is listed above.
  • Vercel Web Analytics counts page views and where visitors arrive from. It waits until you allow it, then loads from roofcheck.co.uk itself, at /_vercel/insights/script.js. It sets no cookie and stores nothing in your browser.
  • Vercel Speed Insights measures how pages load for real visitors. It waits until you allow it, then loads from roofcheck.co.uk itself, at /_vercel/speed-insights/script.js. It sets no cookie either.
  • Cloudflare Turnstile checks that a person is sending the quote form or the message form. It is part of those forms rather than an extra, so it does not wait for consent: it loads from challenges.cloudflare.com on each form’s last step, and this site sets nothing in your browser for it.
  • No other analytics runs here. There is no advertising or tracking network, and nothing that follows you to another site. The typeface and the images are served from roofcheck.co.uk itself.
  • The address lookup and sending a request happen from this site’s server to the services concerned, not from your browser, so they place nothing on your device.

Whether Cloudflare keeps anything in the frame Turnstile runs in is for Cloudflare’s own privacy policy to say.

Changing your choice

Cookie settings, at the foot of every page of this site, opens the banner again, and a new choice replaces the old one. Refusing after allowing stops anything further from loading, and reloading the page clears out anything already running.

The banner asks again a year after a choice, so that a decision made once does not stand for good.

Change your choice here too:

Cookies on my.roofcheck.co.uk

The client dashboard, at my.roofcheck.co.uk, sets one cookie, and only when you sign in. It is essential, since the dashboard can’t tell that you are signed in without it, so it is set without asking, and the dashboard has no cookie banner.

NameSet byPurposeEssentialLasts
__Host-roofcheck-sessionmy.roofcheck.co.ukKeeps you signed in to the client dashboard. It holds a random token that only the dashboard’s server can match to your account, and it is sent to my.roofcheck.co.uk alone, never to roofcheck.co.uk or any other site.Essential30 days, or until you sign out

Nothing else is kept in your browser there. The dashboard keeps nothing in local storage, runs no analytics and loads nothing from other sites, and your choice in the banner on roofcheck.co.uk doesn’t reach it.

Signing out clears the cookie, and so does clearing my.roofcheck.co.uk’s site data in your browser, which signs you out.
